IPG sells half of Facebook Stake

Interpublic Group (NYSE: IPG) sold around half of its stake in Facebook for $133 million to an undisclosed buyer.

IPG had invested around $5 million in Facebook in June, 2006 for a holding equivalent to less than half a percent of the social network, according to Tom Cunningham, vice president of communications for IPG. (more…)

Facebook unveils revamp to games platform

Right on the heels of Google’s launch of social gaming, Facebook has just announced changes to its gaming system that it says will make games easier to find and play.

Those who play games on the social network will now have a separate stream that displays their friends’ game activity, as well as their scores and achievements in a ticker, Jared Morgenstern, Facebook’s product manager for games and credits, said in a Facebook blog post. (more…)

British government considers blocking social sites

Appalled by the rioting that has been sweeping across Britain this week, the government wants to find out if censoring social media sites could help prevent this from happening again.

Prime Minister David Cameron didn’t mention details of what that might mean in practice, only to say in a recalled Parliament this afternoon that the government was looking into “whether it was right” to stop people using social media to “plot” further disorder. (more…)

Hacker Group Anonymous to “Destroy Facebook”

Hacker Group Anonymous, whom has been responsible for cyber-attacks on the Pentagon and News Corp has vowed to destroy Facebook on November 5th 2011.

Citing privacy concerns and the difficulty involved in deleting a Facebook account, Anonymous hopes to “kill Facebook,” the “medium of communication [we] all so dearly adore.” (more…)

Facebook Messenger debuted today in Apple’s App Store, offering iPhone & Google Android users a unified chat experience with the ability to chat in groups with contacts from not only your Facebook friends but also your those listed in their contacts lists.

This app marks the launch of Facebook’s integration of Beluga, that was acquired in March of this year that specialized in group texting. (more…)
